More About Us
Literacy Link - Leamos offers FREE one-to-one tutoring for ADULTS to improve education levels and quality of life. Many of our adult students have reading, writing and math skills at the 7th grade level or below. Our tutors help with basic skills in reading, writing, math and computer skills. We also offer free confidential tutoring in English as a Second Language and to prepare for the citizenship exam (US Naturalization).
Our Let's Read program gives about 20,000 free new books to elementary school children each year.
We also serve people incarcerated at the county jail with classes in Parenting, Poetry and the video Read2Me program (we tape adults reading to their children, and send the DVD and book to the children, who are not allowed to visit at the jail).

Let's Read - Book donations to children
Budget

Program Description
Let's Read goals are: to provide books for Grant County elementary children to have in their homes; to influence children to become lifetime readers; and to maintain funding to support this project. Let's Read aims to annually give ten to twelve new, age-appropriate books to the 2,100 children in the nine elementary schools in Grant County. During the last school year, Let's Read gave a total of 25,207 books to the elementary school children.
Let's Read books are grants from First Book National Book Bank, a non-profit charitable organization that receives donated books from more than 90 publishing partners. Since October, 2001, First Book has granted Let's Read a total of 260,146 books. The retail cost of these books would be close to $3 million. While the books are free, let's Read must pay postage of $0.55 to $0.75 per book.
Teachers and administrators welcome Let's Read in their schools. Teachers have told us that without Let's Read, many children would have few or no books at home.

In May, 2016, Let's Read gave four books each to every grade two student at Hurley Elementary School. Later, the teacher returned to the library where we had given out the books. She returned to tell us that one boy, a trasfer from Las Cruces was very excited because he had never before had a book of his own.
This email received on October 12, 2017, testifies to the impact and success of Let's Read -
Dear Mrs. Baldwin,
On behalf of my fourth grade students, I thank Literacy Link - Leamos for their ongoing support of reading and children.
When children see books as gifts and as treasured objects to own, their love of reading gets a boost. As our class enters the Literacy Link book selection area, excitement grows. This is critical for students from lower social economic status. Unlike others, they may have never been to a booksotre and thus have not felt the excitement that some of us have been privileged to know for years.
In a few homes Literacy Link - Leamos books make up most of a child's book collection.
As you know, books in homes have been linked to improved literacy. (http://222.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0276562410000090). You organization is making a direct impact on childrens' ability to read. Thank you again.
