Gila Native Plant Society 

The Gila Native Plant Society is committed to promoting education, research and appreciation of the native flora of the Southwest;
encouraging the preservation of rare and endangered plant species; and supporting the use of suitable native plants in landscaping.
Most GNPS events are free and open to the public.

WHO WE ARE:
The Gila Native Plant Society is a chapter of the Native Plant Society of New Mexico.

WHAT WE DO:
- Hold monthly meetings from September to May featuring speakers on topics relating to the natural environment of our area
- Organize monthly field trips from April to September to explore the plants of our area
- Maintain the Silva Creek Garden of native plants (on Virginia Street north of route 180)
- Conduct an annual sale of native plants
- Support the Dale A. Zimmerman Herbarium at WNMU
- Arrange lessons in native plants to school groups
- Conduct occasional classes for adults on native plant identification
- Provide grants and support to local projects involving native plants
- Give scholarships to WNMU biology students with a special interest in botany
